Talk with a Less Lethal Personal Defense Specialist for peace of mind
From Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Byrna family meticulously manufactures innovative less-lethal self-defense tools, ensuring thorough quality control and proudly delivering products crafted in the US
A Byrna is a compact non-lethal personal self-defense device. We believe these launchers to. be the safest, most effective and most reliable non-lethal self defense weapons on the market today.
HOW DOES A BYRNA WORK?
The Byrna Launcher is not considered a firearm, however, it is not a toy! It is a highly effective less-lethal weapon that uses pressurized CO2 to fire less-lethal projectiles.
IS A BYRNA CONSIDERED A FIREARM?
No. The Byrna SD is powered by compressed CO2 cartridges, just like a paintball or airsoft gun.
HOW BIG IS THE BYRNA? WILL IT FIT IN A HOLSTER?
The Byrna is roughly the size of a compact 9mm handgun. We sell tactical holsters that have been custom designed to comfortably hold your Byrna as well as nylon holsters designed for compact 9mm handguns.
WHY DOESN'T THE BYRNA HAVE AN ORANGE TIP?
Byrnas not equipped with an orange tip because they are not toys. The orange tip is designed to convey that “gun” is not an actual weapon. The Byrna is a weapon, albeit a less-lethal weapon. Accordingly, we do not sell to anyone under 18.
The Byrna SD Canada Kit is praised for its exceptional quality, reliable self-defense capabilities, and quick customer service. Customers appreciate the launcher's ease of use and the kit's fast shipping. The product is highly recommended for personal protection.

Reviews
Novelty
"I don’t know if I’d consider this reliable for “self defence” it may deter someone but if they are prepared maybe you should be a little …. better prepared. Magazine is sloppy the shots scatter and may be effective at 20 feet or so with a fresh co2. You’d probably save money and have a better outcome at the same time if you bought a real gun."
— Nicholas T. (3/5)
Amazing Product
"At first glance this launcher seems to be a well made alternative to carrying a weapon that must be licensed. (In Canada) However I must ask Byrna to ask me for another review after I have practiced with it. I am waiting for access to country property to test it properly."
— Catherine W. (5/5)
Good for Less-Leathal defense in Two Countries.
"In Canada we are limited in our Self Defence options, including in our homes. After extensive research and information from Canadian & USA Lawyers I found that. As Long as I keep it in my home it is legal for in home self defence in Canada, and the Rules are Similar in all 50 USA States. Only use Kinetic Rounds, Always shoot for Centre of Mass and the legal risks are limited. Its is nice to know I can use this when I Travel to the USA and have no big issues crossing the border. I was VERY impressed when I used the SD first time. My home is small so all contact would be within 25 feet. I set up an Interior Door as a Target at 20 feet and consistently put the first few Kinetics through the first side of the door and cracking the back side of the interior door. I highly doubt I would ever need more than the 7 round mag in any engagement. But as a Paramedic it is nice to know it is unlikely to critically injure an intruder. The Look of the Pistol combined with the pain should be enough to cause a retreat from my home."

Does what they say
"Couldn’t believe how well this defender works it is amazing and my friends have tried it and are ordering one themselves. Thanks Byrna for making such a great weapon for defence"
— Ronald W. (5/5)
Love it!
"Totally satisfied. My first ever purchase of anything like this. It is a little more sturdy than I anticipated, its large enough for my bigger hands, meets my power expectations. A great first purchase of this type of tool. Everything arrived quickly."
— David P. (5/5)
Senior Woman Feels Safer!
"So glad this is legal in Canada. I feel confident after trying out my new Byrna. I have never held a gun before and it did not take long to get comfortable with it."
— Donna K. (5/5)
Orange
"Love it love how it feels the orange look very happy with my purchase."
— Nick W. (5/5)
Very cool
"Great self defence weapon pretty useful in close range"
— Mark F. (5/5)
Where's The Beef??
"One question. Why do the projectiles, not include the active ingredients required, to provide the protection that you are claiming this launcher is capable of? I may as well throw rocks at any prospective attackers."
— Peter L. (1/5)
Not great
"Not accurate, hard to sin , doesn’t shoot 90 feet not worth it"
— Andrew M. (2/5)
Q&A
is this legal in canada
We are able to ship our launchers into Canada. Please visit Byrna.ca for more information and to make your purchase. The Byrna launchers are NOT affected by the recent legislation passed in Canada These new restrictions only apply to handguns that were already subject to firearm licensing requirements in Canada. The change is that, for handguns that always required a registration certificate to purchase, the government will no longer grant the certificates. Byrna launchers never required a certificate. Please see our FAQ page for more information. Byrna does not offer legal advice. Each customer is responsible for checking the law in his or her own area and any area they plan to travel to or through while carrying or possessing a Byrna product.
Can you ship to California
We ship to California the TCR-Tactical Compact Rifle, Mission 4 rifle, and Byrna Universal Pistol Kits. We can not ship the PEPPER or MAX projectiles into California. We can not ship ANY products to San Francisco. Byrna's Shipping Restrictions are set by each individual area or state. For more information about these shipping restrictions, please reach out to legal counsel that is familiar with weapons laws in your area or state. The Byrna is legal to purchase and own without a permit or LTC in 50 states*. The Byrna Launcher is not considered a firearm, however, it is not a toy! It is a highly effective less-lethal weapon. it should only be used for lawful purposes, including self-defense. Like any other weapon, be it a hammer, knife or baseball bat, the Byrna should never be brandished or used in a threatening manner, except as necessary in the defense of oneself or others. While the Byrna can be carried openly and does not require a concealed carry permit, Byrna recommends that because the Byrna launchers closely resemble actual firearms, they be carried discreetly. Byrna offers a number of discrete carry options for your Byrna launcher, ammo and accessories. *Subject to certain restrictions which can be found on our Shipping Restrictions page. Local city ordinances may further restrict possession (NYC, San Francisco, DC, Portland). Byrna does not offer legal advice. What is the difference in a projectile and a Kinectic projectile
Our Byrna Kinetic Projectiles do not contain any active or inert ingredients. These hard, solid plastic projectiles do not break upon impact and can discourage, deter, and delay an attacker. Byrna Kinetic Projectiles also provide useful training without the necessity of traveling to a practice range and are reusable which makes practicing with your Byrna very cost effective. Here is a short video showing the capability of the Kinetic projectiles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjSWMrILpB8. Our Eco-Kinetic are meant to be environmentally friendly, the ECO Kinetic projectiles are water-soluble and will begin to dissolve upon contact with moisture. If exposed to humidity in the air, these rounds begin to swell and degrade, which can eventually lead to jamming and feeding issues when fired from our launchers. Leaving them inside the launcher can cause them to swell and jam due to humidity. The best practice to prevent this from happening is to keep the projectiles tightly sealed until just before use, and to limit their exposure to open air as much as possible when waiting to be fired. The ECO Kinetic rounds are designed to be an inexpensive, practice only projectile that allows you to shoot with no cleanup required. The projectiles are not as accurate as the other options due to the ring in the middle that is formed due to the manufacturing process. Accuracy was not the main focus in designing these projectiles. Cost per round and the easy cleanup were the main priorities.
