HOW DOES A BYRNA WORK?

The Byrna Launcher is not considered a firearm, however, it is not a toy! It is a highly effective less-lethal weapon. While it is legal to carry in all 50 states*, it should only be used for lawful purposes, including self-defense. Like any other weapon, be it a hammer, knife or baseball bat, the Byrna should never be brandished or used in a threatening manner, except as necessary in the defense of oneself or others.

IS A BYRNA CONSIDERED A FIREARM?

No. The Byrna SD is powered by compressed CO2 cartridges, just like a paintball or airsoft gun.

HOW BIG IS THE BYRNA? WILL IT FIT IN A HOLSTER?

The Byrna is roughly the size of a compact 9mm handgun. We sell tactical holsters that have been custom designed to comfortably hold your Byrna as well as nylon holsters designed for compact 9mm handguns. Please see the Product Spec Sheet for more info.

WHY DOESN'T THE BYRNA HAVE AN ORANGE TIP?

Byrnas not equipped with an orange tip because they are not toys. The orange tip is designed to convey that “gun” is not an actual weapon. The Byrna is a weapon, albeit a less-lethal weapon. Accordingly, we do not sell to anyone under 18.

Are they .68 balls ?
All of our projectiles are all .68 Cal.
What are these made of? Do they contain gelatin/fish oil?
To be environmentally friendly, the ECO Kinetic projectiles are water-soluble and will begin to dissolve upon contact with moisture. If exposed to humidity in the air, these rounds begin to swell and degrade, which can eventually lead to jamming and feeding issues when fired from our launchers. Leaving them inside the launcher can cause them to swell and jam due to humidity. The best practice to prevent this from happening is to keep the projectiles tightly sealed until just before use, and to limit their exposure to open air as much as possible when waiting to be fired. The ECO Kinetic rounds are designed to be an inexpensive, practice only projectile that allows you to shoot with no cleanup required. The projectiles are not as accurate as the other options due to the ring in the middle that is formed due to the manufacturing process. Accuracy was not the main focus in designing these projectiles. Cost per round and the easy cleanup were the main priorities.
